Believers In The Power of Metal

All hope is not gone, just most of it. With the release of Slipknot's new album, I went def. There are so many negatives on the album and very few positives it's now hard to talk about Slipknot without mention of the first real train wreck they've run into since Corey's been in the band. I'd like to know what everyone else think's about the new album and hopefully, I mean I really fucking hope (which is gone apparently, my hope) that my ears are deceiving me.

It's true that this is a different direction for Slipknot. It's sort of like they are mixing Stone Sour's softer, somewhat radio friendly approach with Slipknot's in your face, upfront style. Sometimes it works, as in Psychosocial and Butcher's Hook and then other times it... well... doesn't. It's going to take some getting used to but I can bet that after a couple play throughs I won't really notice.
Except for "Snuff"... but that's for another conversation.

I don't think SlipKnot has ever done anything right.

Because that's how much I dislike them :-P Not trying to start trouble here, just voicing my opinion just like the rest of you. You can say my bands suck. I don't care... now carry on.

i disagree. They can't be all things to all people. The self-titled album got everyone on board with them. Iowa is their heaviest album and a fan favorite. Volume III was a great commercial album with Rick Rubin's production that played to both their hardcore fans and the newfound fans that just knew Corey and Jim from Stone Sour.

This album is a combination of all three bands. "Gematria" and "All Hope Is Gone" are as heavy as anything the band's put out. "Sulfur" and "Psychosocial" are heavy and catchy, and "Snuff" is a song that Nickelback or Staind wish they wrote. I'm not sure what album they could have made to make everyone happy, but i think there's something for everyone on this album.

At first I wasn't too happy with the new Slipknot... but the more times I listened to it, the more that record has really grown on me! Thank the Gods you can skip over the Radio friendly ballads, and get onto the heavier stuff.

I thought the album title was pretty ironic, but now I seem to be singing it's praises. Good for them, this album is really good, and the production is simply incredible top to bottom. For any student of the recording arts, this one is fantastic! The mastering of this record is top notch (as is the entire recording process) - To have 9 people doing different things all at once, and to have it come out clear on a recording is a great achievement.

I've listened to it a few more times but the only songs I canget into are psychosocial, giametria, gehenna and all hope is gone. You've got to admit Corey's scream is not the same.

Nick I think you already know that I love this album but the only problem i have with it the vermillion pt 2 remix they should have left it at pt 1.
